The Supreme Court verdict which upheld the election of Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu as the duly elected governor of Ondo State has been described as victory for democracy.
The Ibi Giga Ambassadors, IGA, one of the frontline political support groups that routed for the re-election of Arakunrin Akeredolu right from the party primary to the October 2020 election, made the declaration today in Akure while reacting to the judgement.
The Supreme Court had in its judgement dismissed the case brought before it by the PDP candidate, Mr. Eyitayo Jegede, SAN, seeking to upturn the victory of the APC candidate, Mr. Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN.
In a statement by the Director-General of IGA, Prof. ‘Lanre Olu-Adeyemi, he described the judgement as well thought-out and a confirmation of the mandate freely given to Arakunrin Akeredolu in the October 2020 governorship polls.
According to him, “We at Ibi Giga are extremely happy that we did not make the wrong choice when we pitched our tent with our Principal, Arakunrin Akeredolu, SAN. We stood all through by Arakunrin from the primary to the main election, not minding the political pebbles and jabs thrown at us. We are glad that in the end, we are happier for it. We return all the glory and honour to God Almighty who has made the victory possible.”
In a similar vein, the Convener of Ibi Giga Ambassadors, Chief (Dr) Alex Oluremi Ajipe, the Irawo-Ola of Yorubaland also expressed his heartfelt congratulations to His Excellency, Arakunrin Akeredolu for the victory well deserved. He also congratulated the APC National Caretaker & Extraordinary Convention Committee Chairman and Governor of Yobe State, Alhaji Mai Mala Buni and his team, the Ondo APC Caretaker Chairman, Engr. Ade Adetimehin and members of the executive as well as the leadership and members of the party across the 18 local government areas of the state, for standing by the party and the governor while the case lasted.
The Convener appealed to the PDP candidate, Mr. Eyitayo Jegede, SAN, and his supporters to put the issue behind them and join hands with Arakunrin Akeredolu in his avowed commitment to better the state than he met it.
In his words, “We do not have any state that we can call our own other than Ondo State. Let’s all work together to make it greater.”
The Ondo State Election Petition Tribunal and the Court of Appeal had earlier upheld the victory of Arakunrin Akeredolu as the duly elected governor of Ondo state in the October 2020 gubernatorial election.
