The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC has announced date for the governorship election in Ekiti and Osun State.
Mahmood Yakubu, INEC chairman, said in Abuja on Wednesday that the election in Ekiti will hold on June 18, 2022, while that of Osun will hold on July 16, 2022.
Both governorship elections are part of the off-season polls which are held outside the period for general elections.
Yakubu said: “In keeping with our policy of announcing the dates of elections in advance to enable early and effective preparations by all concerned, the commission has approved that the Ekiti state governorship election will hold on Saturday, 18th June 2022 while the Osun state governorship election will hold one month later on Saturday July 16th 2022
He added that the commission has published the detailed timetable and schedule of activities for the two elections.
“We implore political parties and aspirants to ensure rancour-free primaries and thereafter conduct peaceful electioneering campaigns,” he said.
The INEC chairman also said the commission remains committed to conducting credible elections, with activities in full gear for the Anambra governorship scheduled for November 6, 2021
