Court Stops the Impeachment of Zamfara Deputy Governor

Justice Obiora Egwuatu of the Federal High Court in Abuja today restrained the Zamfara State House of Assembly, the Chief Judge and others from effecting the impeachment of the state’s Deputy Governor, Mahdi Gusau.

The judge gave the order while ruling in an ex-parte motion brought by the Peoples Democratic Party.

Since Governor Bello Matawalle defected from the Peoples Democratic Party to APC, Zamfara politics has been plunged into the national limelight. Hence, the Peoples Democratic Party has dragged the Governor to court over the transfer of its mandate to the All Progressives Congress.

However, Deputy Governor Gusau did not join his boss in defecting to APC and he is also planning to host a political rally in the state.

In Monday’s ruling, Justice Egwuatu stopped the Zamfara State House of Assembly from impeaching its other members who are still in the PDP, including the Deputy Governor.

The Zamfara State House of Assembly had, earlier this month, asked Deputy Governor Gusau to appear before its members on July 27 over a political rally he (Gusau) organised in the state.
