The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Klick konnect Networks Chief Dr Alex Ajipe has commended the administration of Ondo State Governor, Arakurin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu for its strong security architecture, which has made life bearable to farmers in the state.

He said Akeredolu’s efforts in establishment of the Western Nigeria Security Network (WNSN) codenamed AMOTEKUN has placed the interest of Ondo state above other considerations by investing in the security of lives and property.

Ajipe gave the commendation today at the 55th Annual Conference of Agricultural Society of Nigeria (ASN) holding at Rufus Giwa Polytechnic Owo, Ondo state

Speaking on the theme “UNLOCKING THE POTENTIALS OF AGRICULTURAL VALUE CHAINS FOR SUSTAINABLE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT IN NIGERIA, Ajipe said there are lots of opportunities in Agricultural Sector if the government can key into it.

He said Akeredolu government has done a lot for farmers in the state by providing security to curb the regular conflicts between farmers and herders. He also advised other state government to key into the agricultural revolution been witnessed in Ondo state.

“To successfully harness the opportunities that will drive growth in the agricultural sector in Nigeria, there’s a need to rethink the existing institutional arrangement”

“Agriculture needs to be practiced as a business rather than a hobby. Nigeria needs to shift from public sector to private sector-led agricultural transformation by investing more in technology upgrade across the value chain than in Research and Development”.

“Agriculture was the mainstay of Nigeria’s economy before the discovery of crude oil. From 1960 to 1969, the sector accounted for an average of 57.0% of GDP and generated 64.5% of export earnings. From 1970 to late 2000s, the sector’s contribution to GDP and export earnings steadily declined, because Nigeria focus shifted to petroleum exploration. Over the past five years, the sector has contributed an average of 23.5% to GD”

“In a significant mindset shift, the government’s focus should be on investments that incentivize greater productivity and the ability to capture a higher value include transport infrastructure; energy for processing, chilling, drying, or and packaging commodities; research and extension services in new storage practices, processing and packaging technologies; and ‎‎education and training in product marketing.

” This will enhance productivity and have multiplier effects on the value chain segments. All stakeholders must form a synergy with one another to achieve this and also need to share ideas which can be achieved through learning by doing, using and interacting, supported by strong and effective extension systems”

He however praised the administration of Arakurin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu for investing more in Agriculture through the agricultural revolution and the establishment of Cassava-to-Ethanol Plant in Ore. The plant according to him requires about 400 tonnes of cassava daily and one million tonnes of the product annually and Not less than 2000 farmers supply the company for daily production.

Ajipe also said Akeredolu’s administration has done well in securing the farmers In the state from the hands of herdsmen with its decisive actions as regards the state security system, thus making Ondo state peaceful and suitable for habitation.

“It’s no gainsaying the fact that our security is well guaranteed in Ondo especially when considering the level of apprehension and fright enraging many parts of the country as occasioned by volatile atmosphere”

“It’s then not surprising to us that Akeredolu is giving touches of excellence to every critical sector of the state which has engendered the development of the state’s economy through Agriculture”

“Akeredolu is indeed an astute, proficient and result-oriented leader whose kind should be manning the state affairs.” he said
